What is that smell?

Oh, apparently it's beer brewing night,
I think it smells like skunk stew, but Chris thinks it's how heaven will smell.

Sooooooo, bunko was a roaring success and now I am off the hook for the rest of the year. The ladies loved their prizes and enjoyed all the snacks, but I completely forgot to serve my poke cake dessert amidst all the cleaning up. So we ended up with a whole 9x13 cake to ourselves.
My green jello gave it just the right amount of St. Paddy's Day flair.

Um, something is apparently in our kitchen heating vent. We can hear it scratching, but since it's up high on the wall we can't see what it is. Chris grabbed a broom and after rapping on the vent cover, quickly closed it. Hopefully whatever it is doesn't crawl to the ceiling vent in the bedroom, escape and then eat our faces off in the night. That would be bad.

Calm before the storm

Tomorrow night is bunko at our house so I spent tonight preparing and cleaning. First order of business was getting my lime poke cake baked and in the fridge to set.
I'm going with a green theme so in addition to the poke cake I've got green veggies with ranch dip, spinach dip and baguettes, jalapeno jelly over cream cheese with crackers, and spanakopita bites. There was lots of bread and veggies to pre-cut tonight.
Now we're just waiting until bedtime to mop the floors. I'm glad this whirlwind only happens once a year at our house, I'd hate to have to clean the house any more often than that.

Movie mania

And by "mania" I mean that we watched two movies today. We went to the theater for the first showing of Unknown (Liam Neeson) this morning to capitalize on the $5 first showing of the day price. We both really enjoyed it. There was action, suspense, and a plot twist neither of us saw coming. After doing some chores and watching NASCAR in the afternoon we watched our recording of When in Rome (Kristen Bell & Josh Duhamel). A romantic comedy - what's not for the Canadian to love?

Today was my third day in my compression stocking, having graduated from my cast boot. While it was frustrating me the first day since you have to be more conscience about what pants you wear over it as the top of the stocking creates a sort of "muffin ass" effect that is very noticeable under knit/fitted pants, I have come to peace with it and actually like the snug compression it's providing my whole leg all day. It's only for day wear so I still have to take it off and wrap my foot in bandages at night. No more sleeping in for a while since it's takes an extra 15-20 minutes to get my leg undressed and then redressed. Slowly but surely I'm seeing progress in my foot and the fluids are getting pushed out. I still have fat little piggy toes, but continuous individual wrapping at night should eventually help solve that.

Since it's Sunday it's one of our workout nights at the gym which is usually followed by a little night time snack. Tonight's choice for the Canadian?
Lime sherbet, chocolate peanut butter ice cream, and marshmallows. And no, he's not pregnant, I asked.

Super phone

I finally turned in my gerbil powered flip phone yesterday for a new upgrade. I really wanted a good camera phone this time so I found one that had an 8 mp camera with flash and zoom. Now I can be more covert in my photo taking missions.
With my fancy schmancy new phone I took a photo of my Christmas perfume sampler refill. Out of the 12 perfume samples I could turn in a voucher for a free full size bottle of my favorite. My sister, Wilson, picked it up for me since there's no Sephora in this neck of the woods and brought it to me during our lunch date today.
Good photo quality, though the photos from my phone are slightly narrower than the traditional camera photos. Hmmm, I wonder why that is and if I'll be able to print them out at WalFart. We shall see.

New watch

The Canadian got a ceramic burro and I got a new Citizen Eco-Drive watch for our anniversary. That seems pretty equal, right?

Official brewmasters

Last night Chris and I met at Sierra Nevada at 8:00 pm for our anniversary dinner. I couldn't believe that at 8:00 pm on a Thursday night there was still a wait! Since we never do it, we splurged and got an appetizer - fried calamari.
As usual, Chris got the sausage platter, but I tried something new and got the Greek flatbread.
It was a warm pizza crust covered in a hummus spread and then topped with a Greek salad (cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, baby greens, sliced red onion, kalamata olives, and feta cheese). It was served with a side of cucumber yogurt, but I didn't use it. It was equally good fresh as it was as chilled leftovers.

We met so late for dinner because Chris was at the brewery attending his first home brew club meeting. He actually signed us up as a couple so that I could attend events, like the upcoming Sacramento pub crawl, at a reduced rate. For our membership dues we got these super cute mini tasting glasses;
Perfectly sized for my jagermeister nightcaps!
